After two years in development finally comes Prodoomer. Now it's essentially another game that takes some RPG elements, including a hub city where you can use your credits to upgrade your weapons, buy items, among other features that you see in Prodoomer. Everything including the titlemap looks impressive except the gameplay. Now this review is mostly going to be about the gameplay which actually matters the most. The reason why Doom had universal acclaim was mostly because of the gameplay.
The gameplay in general feel much slower with too much recoil, except the fists. When I got even further into this wad, until I gave up on level 7, I had to save my game every step of the way in order to advance further in the level. Almost every encounter with a monster feels like a struggle because of the recoil and the fact that enemies can do so much damage to you before you die. When you get hit, you automatically look upwards just as if you were dealing with the recoil of most of the weapons. On the second level for example, I was trying to kill a chaingun guy while also dealing with a small group of imps and somehow I died mainly because of the recoil getting in the way. There's times I got killed because I didn't know an enemy was there sneaking up behind me. The center view feels like I'm moving more upwards rather than actually feeling more centered like you see in Doom. The platforming is also terrible and doesn't belong in Doom. On rooftop level (Level 6), I had to load my game several times because I either died, or feel off a skyscraper because I wasn't careful enough. I supposed I could of just played this on the lowest difficulty or second to make things slightly easier, but there's also the terrible platforming that I would still have to deal with regardless. I mostly played this wad under the veteran difficulty setting because I thought I would do just fine, but still struggled in some areas of certain levels.
Overall, Prodoomer is basically a wad that incorporates some RPG elements and modern FPS elements, with unlockables all into something that could be considered another game. Personally I could care less about the Easter eggs and other stuff because I didn't enjoy the gameplay because it felt boring and frustrating. I give this wad 3/5.
